The most helpful piece of news recently… for me anyway. I have been looking around for classes such as this. And what do you know. Just as I was looking for something. This pops up. Yay!

Practical aesthetics

Are you interested in acting? Then make a beeline for David Lim’s acting class, Scene Study, at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts in Jalan Strachan, Kuala Lumpur from Oct 20 onwards.

Participants will study Practical Aesthetics (PA) – a technique that explores the processes of acting. This technique was developed by award-winning writer-filmmaker David Mamet and Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy.

Talent showcase: Dram Projects founder Jennifer Kuah in front of the studio. Check out its upcoming Project OMG (Open Mike Gig).

Created primarily as a response to Method Acting, PA has been studied by actors such as Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four), Matthew Fox (Lost) and Eddie Cahill (CSI:NY).

The class is open to beginners without any training as well as seasoned veterans who simply want to try another approach to acting. Participants will be required to attend all classes and be prepared to spend at least four-to-six hours a week outside of class on homework.

The classes are open to participants who are 18 years old and above. The course fee is RM400 and registration fee is RM50. Classes will be held on Thursdays (8.30pm till 10.30pm) and Saturdays (2.30pm till 6.30pm). There will be a mini presentation on Dec 1 (5pm).

Only a maximum of 14 students will be accepted. Reading materials and an introduction letter will be handed out or e-mailed to enrolled participants. For more information call 03-4047 9060 or e-mail academy@klpac.com.
