Fox (left) and Alba.THE Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in Sentul Park, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, is offering several courses for performing arts enthusiasts from October to December.
Acting classes with the theme Scene Study will be conducted on Oct 20, 25 and 27, Nov 1, 3, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29, and Dec 1 by actor-director David Lim from 8.30pm to 10.30pm (Thursdays) and from 2.30pm to 6.30pm (Saturdays). It costs RM450, inclusive of registration fee.
Participants will study the practical aesthetics technique which was developed by American filmmaker David Mamet and actor William H. Macy.
Jessica Alba, Matthew Fox (Lost) and Eddie Cahill (CSI: New York) are among those who have studied this technique.
Lim starred in KLPac’s recent play Enemy of the People and Dramalab’s Gadis Jalan Burmah last year.
He studied acting at the Atlantic Acting School in New York and the Moscow Art Theatre School.Meanwhile, the Spanish Embassy is conducting two dance and choreography workshops. One is for beginners and it takes place from 3 to 7pm on Nov 18. The other is for experienced dancers and choreographers and it is held at the same time on Nov 24 and 25.
At Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, lecturer Dr Ariff Ahmad will hold gamelan classes on Oct 27, Nov 3, 10, 17 and 24, and Dec 1, 8 and 15, from 2 to 4pm. It’s RM160 per session with a registration fee of RM50.
The history of the gamelan orchestra in Southeast Asia, gamelan music and how to use at least two types of gamelan instruments will be taught.
Ariff is a guest composer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi in Kajang. He has 40 years of experience in the arts and has produced several albums including that of the late violin maestro, Hamzah Dolmat.
