Before I begin my rant… I am HUGE fan of Grey’s Anatomy. So the fact that I don’t get to see it… I’m tormented!
Now as I was saying.
Grey’s Anatomy episode 9 entitled “Crash Into Me, Part I” left me in much agony two weeks back.
Why?
Because if you look very carefully there are the two words that I distinctly detest - “Part One”… Arrghhh which means that the ending was not resolved and I have to wait for the following week to see what happens next. Furthermore if you’d look even more closely at the end of the video clip there is a very obvious “TO BE CONTINUED”.
But what really got me more upset was the fact that the next episode - ep 10 “Crash Into Me, Part II” was no where to be found.
Why?
Because if this

Some of you have heard… which i’m very sure you have. The writer’s strike is going on now in the USA. That said the demonstration of the writer’s protest has caused a number of shows to go into rerun mode. Hence even people like your talk shows, CSI, whatever they are all on hold. It seems they rejected the latest proposal that was given by the studios at the end of November.
I was having a look at the best Grey’s Anatomy site ever: Grey’s Anatomy Insider (GAI), and it seems that “Crash into Me, Part II” will be aired this thursday…Thank GOD! But after that, episode 11 will only be aired next year.
Now i have nothing against this in fact, as much as I’m being tormented by the waiting factor. However I think some people who commented on this post on GAI are a tad bit unfair. You can read the post here - Writers to Continue Strike; Episode 11 to Air Next Year. Some called the writer’s greedy, some just could not understand what’s the fuss with the riot…
Example:
In all fairness, the writer’s DESERVE to get a higher pay, and just by the studios giving it to them, I don’t think it’ll just end there. Yes most of the time we see the actors working their butts off - and it’s considered hard work…. HELLO! Writing is not a cushy job either… I would like for some of you out there who said the writers are being greedy, to think about it. How easy is it to come up with a good script?
If you don’t have a good script, there is no show, there is nothing the directors can work with, there is nothing the actors can act out. A script is pretty much how everything starts of in the first place. So the writers deserve a lot more credit. Take “Friends”, the script in itself is brilliant, but the actors brought the funny message and gave it more life. It’s a REAL TEAM effort.
So please for some, don’t diss the riot. I know at the top it sounded like I was complaining, but really it is more to state that the writers deserver recognition and I think people may not see that. I mean, we dont even see the writers, half of the viewers are in love with the show - actors - not the writers. They are the people behind the scenes. So I don’t know. I can bet that the minute the show goes back on air.. people will forget all about the writers again.
Besides now with new media, it’s obvious everyone wants to get out on the new business of putting up videos on the net, but then when people pay to download the videos the writers don’t get a share. Come on! Even recording artists, when they get an album sold they at least get a few cents worth. So why can’t the writers get a share too?
It’s a whole copyright issue thing along with the rights to a creative idea or intellectual property. It’s a messy thing.
You can say in away that the strike is to really let the people see the writers… although I think it’s going a very negative way in some aspects. But good thing that the actors are behind the writers on this move. So yeah I’m behind the writers on their strike too!
